DeMarcoLab x Nico

DVLAB 02: NICO from DeMarcoVisuaLab on Vimeo.

The homie Nico raged Taipei with me for a couple weeks and picked himself up a dope new sponsor, Demarcolab.

Kozmo.com

Its hard to believe what some folks with VC money will do. I worked for this start up Kozmo.com while in college and got paid to do my homework amongst other things. The concept was quite good but the execution was all wrong. One hour delivery of movies and food to your doorstep from the web. Pretty dope by today's standards but in 1998 - 2001 it was a little ahead of its time. Over estimated customer base led to 20 - 30 delivery people on hand at all times. The uiniforms alone were crazy expensive, plus full gortex rain gear, messenger bags of the highest quality, and isolated freezer bags were thrown around like penny candy.

Other peoples money is easily spent.

At least something worthwhile was developed out of the ruins of the dotcom bust.

Savages.

We do it in the park, we do it in the streets

When i say park i use the term loosely being that we are in the middle of a rather large city trees and grass are somewhat of a rarity. a park could potentially mean a promenade, or courtyard between two buildings but its all the same. i think the real defining feature of a true park in Taipei is whether or not old folks do Tai Chi there at 6am or 11pm.

Outside TPE

pretty much anything, designed for tourists on this island is the worst possible choice of weekend activity. Over and over again i am reminded that Taiwan is a great place to live but horrible place to travel. This isn't to say i haven't had some exceptional experiences here and there, but for the most part id rather stay in the city.

Come Saturday or Sunday i can count on my lady wanting to go and "do something". this means walk around and shop for the most part but sometimes she will want to go to some tourist spot. i don't understand the draw. Its always the same; subway, bus, wait in line, take 100 pics, eat some street food(that they sell right next to the house), wait in line, bus, subway, so happy to be home.

Despite my better judgment i reluctantly agreed to go to some mountain side for a nice walk and good views. Long story short, this proved to be as i previously expected, overcrowded and a waste of time. my girls selection of hiking/long walk footwear was entertaining though.

7-11 aka "the gentleman's lounge", " the sev", etc...

7-11 in Taiwan is pretty much an institution. Any night of the week you are guaranteed cheap drinks, someone to bullshit with, and good scenery. Coming from a state where liquor is regulated heavily, being able to pick up a few beers or a bottle of vodka if you please, and enjoy it outside without any problems is quite a treat.

This specific 7-11 is particularly dear to my heart for a slew of reasons as i am sure it is to anyone who has spent a bit of time in Taipei. We have met and hung out on that corner more than anywhere else in this city. my friend even met his wife there. its dirty and grimy and as much as i complain about the euro-trash that rolls through whenever some techno dj is in town, i gotta give it credit for providing some quality nights.

plus its got bike parking. Bar Beer time
